There’s something about the little things—the quiet comforts, the small rituals—that have a way of softening the edges of the day. This blog is a space where I’ll share thoughts from my “window seat,” both literal and metaphorical, and I thought I’d start by letting you peek into the kinds of things that make my world feel a little more grounded, cozy, and joyful.
No links, no sales pitch—just a collection of things that make my days better. Maybe they’ll make yours better too.
1. Mornings that start slowly
There’s magic in not rushing. I love waking up just early enough to enjoy the quiet—before anyone else (furry or human) needs me. A warm mug in my hand, the hush of the house, and a bit of morning light peeking through the window? That’s a win.
2. A good pen and a half-used notebook
Not a fresh one—those intimidate me. But one that’s already messy and lived in. Whether I’m journaling, scribbling to-do lists, or letting my mind wander, there’s comfort in pen-to-paper moments.
3. The window seat (obviously)
My favorite thinking spot. It’s where the cats nap, where I daydream, and where a lot of this blog will be imagined. Something about sitting by the window makes everything feel more thoughtful, even if I’m just watching the world go by.
4. My cats being absolute weirdos
They sit on my keyboard, chase shadows, lick pillows (don’t ask), and somehow make life feel better just by existing. Each one has their quirks, and their personalities fill the house with so much chaotic love.
5. A second cup of coffee I don’t need but absolutely deserve
There’s something deeply satisfying about the second cup. The first one is for waking up; the second is for savoring. Especially if it’s paired with silence, a podcast, or cat cuddles.
6. Lighting a candle in the middle of the day for no reason
You don’t have to earn ambiance. I like lighting a candle even when nothing special is happening. It turns a regular Tuesday into something that feels just a little bit more lovely.
7. Seasonal swaps
Changing out blankets, pillow covers, or even just putting out a little pumpkin in the fall gives me a sense of rhythm. I don’t decorate extravagantly, but tiny seasonal touches make home feel more alive.
8. A soft playlist in the background
Sometimes words are too much, and music is just right. I keep a few go-to playlists on rotation—mostly soft piano, acoustic, or dreamy indie stuff that makes the house feel like a movie I’m living in.
9. Good conversation, even if it’s just with myself
I talk to myself more than I should probably admit. Out loud. Sometimes in the mirror. Sometimes in the kitchen while making toast. And you know what? It helps. Thoughts need air.
10. Letting something be unfinished
This one’s newer for me. I’m learning to be okay with things being in progress—projects, rooms, plans, even blog posts. There’s beauty in not rushing to tie everything up in a bow.
Final Thought
If you made it to the end of this list, thank you. This blog isn’t about being perfect, productive, or polished—it’s just a place to sit awhile and share what’s real. I hope something on this list made you smile or reminded you of your own little comforts.
Feel free to tell me one of your favorite everyday joys in the comments. I’d love to know what’s on your window seat.
Until next time,
Catherine
